Miguel Cabrera received 22 of 28 first-place votes and 362 points from the American League panel of the Baseball Writers? Association of America.
The Detroit Tigers? Miguel Cabrera has won the American League?s Most Valuable Player award after becoming baseball?s first triple crown winner in 45 years, and San Francisco?s Buster Posey has been voted the National League honor.
Cabrera received 22 of 28 first-place votes and 362 points from the A.L. panel of the Baseball Writers? Association of America. Mike Trout, the Los Angeles Angels? rookie center fielder, had 6 firsts and 281 points.
Cabrera had a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 runs batted in
Posey won the N.L. award after returning from a devastating leg injury and becoming the first catcher in 70 years to win the league?s batting title.
Posey received 27 of 32 first-place votes and 422 points, outdistancing Ryan Braun of Milwaukee, the 2011 winner, who was second with 285 points.
The 2010 N.L. rookie of the year, Posey set career highs with a .336 average, 24 home runs and 103 R.B.I. for the Giants, who swept Cabrera?s Tigers in the World Series. Posey?s 2011 season was cut short by a collision with the Marlins? Scott Cousins on May 25 that resulted in a fractured bone in Posey?s lower left leg and three torn ankle ligaments.
